Devon’s local authorities have joined together to support local residents who want to provide sanctuary to the Ukrainian refugees who have been forced to flee their homes.

Local sight loss charity Devon in Sight stands ready to support Devon residents hosting Ukrainian refugees with sight loss.

Grahame Flynn, Devon in Sight’s Chief Executive said, “We are committed to support anyone with issues around sight loss, this includes our friends fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

Whilst sight loss issues are largely determined by older age, we are acutely aware of the fact that some refugees from the conflict will have experienced trauma. Gunshot wounds, blast trauma and traumatic brain injury (TBI) can often lead to vision loss. We will try our best to help refuges navigate sight loss services available to them locally, regionally and nationally.”

Please don’t hesitate to contact our helpline team to find out how we can help you and your Ukrainian guests with free practical help and advice about sight loss. Please call us on 01392 876 666.

Devon County Council has set up a dedicated website page for people hosting Ukrainian refugees.
