Over half of all sight loss is preventable, and can be influenced by lifestyle issues such as diet, exercise and alcohol.
Therefore it is really important to pay attention to the health of your eyes.
Regular eye tests can provide an early indication of new problems and can also identify possible health issues such as diabetes. Having an eye examination at least once every two years should be part of everyone’s health care routine. Many causes of sight loss are preventable if they are caught early by visiting an optometrist.
The NHS Choices website provides an overview of eye health.

You should go to a hospital accident and emergency department as soon as possible if you:
- Have a sudden serious change in your vision
- Lose all or part of your vision in one eye or both eyes
- Have an accident involving your eyes
- Suddenly start seeing flashing lights or floaters in your vision.
