Devon in Sight hosts BBC’s Michael Chequer

BBC Radio Devon’s Michael Chequer has visited Devon in Sight’s Resource Centre in Topsham today to record two pieces for broadcast over the coming days.Nanette Meets Michael Chequer

He spoke to Nanette Bolton about the work of the Resource Centre, and to volunteer Darren Walker, who talked to him about the work he does here with assistive technology, and also what it is like to be one of our clients.

Devon in Sight is one of five organisations to benefit from BBC Radio Devon’s Give a Gift Appeal run in association with the Devon Community Foundation. The piece is due to run over the Christmas week.

He also recorded a piece with Operations Manager Grahame Flynn about our latest campaign, Seeing in the New Year, which is encouraging people to make a new year’s resolution to get their eyes tested in 2014.

Fifty per cent of sight loss in the UK is avoidable, according to Vision 2020, so Devon in Sight wants as many people as possible to visit their optician to help to cut this shocking statistic.

Grahame said: “We were really pleased to meet Michael and will be listening out for the pieces on Radio Devon.

“We’re honoured to have been chosen to benefit from the Give A Gift Appeal, and hope we have given the BBC’s listeners a taste of what we do here.

“Michael hopes to run a piece on our own Seeing in the New Year campaign early in 2014, so we’ll all be listening out for that too.”
