MId-Devon Bowls Centre are a successful indoor bowls club with around 150 members, both male and female, ranging in age from 12 to 96. We welcome bowlers of all abilities from novices to county and national standard. We are also open to the general public and have an excellent facility with four playing rinks, a large lounge and licensed bar. Bowling is a very sociable activity and we have a significant number of members aged over 70 who find the gentle exercise beneficial and enjoy the company.

We also cater for the disabled and have several disabled members. Our facility is run by volunteers, supported by two part-time staff. During the summer we ran a successful pilot scheme with a group of around 12 blind and partially sighted bowlers. The facility was provided free of charge and some of members volunteered to help and also paid for the bowling fees for the participants. These fees pay for the lighting and heating costs. All the participants benefitted from the experience including our volunteers who found great satisfaction in seeing their charges progress and succeed.

They have The money would help to enable us to continue to provide regular weekly sessions for the blind and partially sighted bowlers. Our volunteers are needed to provide help and coaching on a one-to-one basis, which they do free of charge. The money would help towards the cost of the electricity for the rink lighting (160 fluorescent tubes each consuming around 70 watts) and the rink heating for around 12-15 2-hour sessions.
