Annual General Meeting

Wednesday 16th October saw Devon in Sight’s Review of the Year & Vision of the Future (incorporating the Annual General Meeting) take place at Exmouth Pavilion.

Gwyn Dickinson MBE in her Chairman’s report thanked the staff and volunteers for their support over her tenure. She acknowledged the sadness that we had all felt following the tragic loss of Elizabeth Hubbick who had been due to take over as Chairman, and the recent death of our Vice Patron, Bill Pertwee. In standing down Gwyn was thanked by Dr Alma Swan on behalf of the Trustees and presented some flowers by the Leader of Devon County Council, Cllr. Bernard Hughes OBE.

During the business part of the day staff talked about their achievements and Steve Muncer gave his financial report. A number of Trustees were elected by the Members and Peter Wareham took up his post as Chairman and Dr Alma Swan the role of Vice Chairman.

New Operations Manager Grahame Flynn gave an overview of the challenges facing the charity in attracting new funding in the current economic climate.

Julie Dyer from Optima Low Vision Services gave an engaging talk about Low Vision and daily Living and Alyson Badnell of the Devon Sensory Team gave an insight into the work of the Rehabilitation Officers.

The feedback from the event has been very positive.
